My my My my
Attention all parents of EYHA Female hockey players
by posted 02/15/2018

I wanted to pass along some updates for girls hockey going as this season winds down and also as we look forward to next season.
Coming up:
  • For girls 10 and under, we will be participating in a cross ice 4-4 jamboree next Saturday, February 24th at the Riverworks in Buffalo.  If you did not receive information regarding this, please email me at:       This is for any girl under age 10 playing travel, house or in ADM 1 or 2.  Birth years 2007 - 2012
  • I will be taking some of our ADM (2009-2012) girls to a cross ice tournament in Cleveland the weekend of March 10-11.  If you did not receive information regarding this please contact me ASAP.
  • For the younger girls (Timbits / ADM - 2010-13) we plan to attend at least 2 or 3 of these all girls "ponytail" jamborees next season.  We want to give an opportunity for our girls to play together at a younger age and allow them to get some extra ice time.
Going Forward:
For the older girls, going into the 2018-19 hockey season we anticipate fielding teams at the 14U and 12U level.
The 12U team will play out of the Pittsburgh Amateur Hockey League (PAHL) and the 14U team will play an independent tournament bound schedule.
The 12U team will consist of girls ages 9-12 and they will play a 10 game schedule, consisting of 5 home and 5 away games plus playoffs.
*** It is important to note than any girls playing house or travel boys are also able to participate on this 12U girls team.  There will be an additional fee, but the girls would receive additional practice times in addition to their games.  Girls can also chose to solely play on the girls team, but we encourage house or travel play to increase on-ice exposure.
The 14U team, is anticipating an independent schedule that will consist of 20-25 games plus at least 3-4  tournaments, possibly more.  Age ranges for the 14U team will be strict 13-14 to keep within the rules of USA hockey for tournament bound teams.   One caveat is we are allowed an exemption for our 12 yr old goalie, which we will submit to MidAm.
The 14U team will most likely be re-branded as the 14U Lady Jr Otters team.  We are awaiting confirmation from the Otters, but we do not anticipate any issues.  Girls would wear the same home / away uniforms as the Erie Otters and the other Jr. Otters teams.  They will also have occasional practices and training sessions with the Erie Otters staff.
14U Tryouts will be held in April at a date yet to be determined.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.  We are looking forward to putting more girls on the ice than in years past.
Thank you all for your commitment to Erie Youth Hockey and the Erie Lady Lions.

EYHA Locker Room Policies Reminders
by posted 02/13/2018

Attention all EYHA Members

USA Hockey states, “Cell phones and other mobile devices with recording capabilities, which includes voice recording, still cameras, and video cameras, increase the risk forms of abuse or misconduct.  As a result, the use of a mobile device’s recording capabilities in the locker rooms is not permitted at any USA Hockey sanctioned event, provided that it may be acceptable to take photographs or recordings in a locker room in such unique circumstances as a victory celebration, team party, etc… where all persons in the locker room are appropriately dressed and have been advised that photographs or recordings are being taken.”

EYHA is part of USA Hockey and MUST be complying with the above at all times.

Attention All EYHA Members – WE WANT YOU!
by posted 02/10/2018

As I’m sure you are all aware, we have a great opportunity in front of us with the new Erie Bank Sports Park on the horizon.  An opportunity for EYHA to have things that we have only been able to dream of these past couple years…  More ice time, consistent practice schedules, growing our membership, skating/skills clinics, stick times, open skates, a place to call “home”…  Sounds great doesn’t it?!?!

In addition to being a great opportunity, the new facility coming online this fall means that we have a tremendous amount of work to do between now and then, in order to put our organization in a position to make the most of all that will be available to us.  There is so much work to do in fact, that our current organizational structure will not allow for it all to get done.  That’s where you come in…

We are looking for VOLUNTEERS THAT ARE WILLING TO STEP UP AND GET INVOLVED!  These volunteers will serve on committees that will meet regularly to ensure that the Erie Youth Hockey Association evolves into being a world-class athletic organization that we can all be proud to be a part of.

The following is an outline of what the committees will be/be responsible for:

·         Chairperson and 2-3 other volunteers

·         Responsible for:

o   All communication with the board regarding marketing

o   Website administration

o   Social Media presence and outreach

o   All other forms of media communication and execution, ie: print, TV, Radio, Schools, etc…

o   Our image and presence at Erie Bank Sports Park, Erie Insurance Arena, Mercyhurst, etc…

·         Chairperson and 1-2 other volunteers

·         Responsible for:

o   All communication with the board regarding coaching

o   Building unified structure/systems that can be implemented throughout the organization

o   Communicating with coaches throughout the year and making sure they have the support they need from the organization

o   Ensuring that coaches have all necessary training/documentation/clearances completed in a timely manner

o   Looking for opportunities to provide support to our coaches and make their lives easier, whenever possible

o   Building bridges with regional high school coaches/teams

o   Recruiting coaches

·         Chairperson and 2-3 other volunteers

·         Responsible for:

o   All communication with the board regarding tournaments

o   All aspects of executing our 3 tournaments (Ice Breaker, Sarah Backstrom and Joe McCallion)

§  Marketing

§  Recruitment

§  Scheduling

§  Execution

§  Post-tournament follow up

Recruitment/New Skaters

·         Chairperson and 2-3 other volunteers

·         Responsible for:

o   All communication with the board regarding recruitment and new skaters

o   Building EYHA in term of numbers at ALL levels

o   Working with the marketing committee to communicate with the community/schools about getting involved in EYHA

o   Looking for new and creative ways/opportunities to grow EYHA

o   Making sure the needs and expectations of our new skaters AND their families are being exceeded to the best of our ability

Member Relations/Community Outreach/Fundraising

·         Chairperson and 2-3 other volunteers

·         Responsible for:

o   All communication with the board regarding member relations/community outreach/fundraising

o   Making sure the needs and expectations of our members AND their families are being exceeded to the best of our ability

o   Building EYHA, in terms of perception and financially, by proactively interacting with the business community and making them aware of our goals and needs

o   Working together with our individual teams to help facility and coordinate successful individual team fund raising activities throughout the year

o   Help with volunteering, service hours, etc…

o   Coordination and execution of the Annual Orange Discount Card fundraiser

Jr Otters

·         Chairperson and 1-2 other volunteers

·         Responsible for:

o   All communication with the board regarding Jr Otters

o   All communication with the Erie Otters regarding the Jr Otters

o   Ensuring that the Jr Otters teams are getting all of the support and resources that they need to function/compete at an elite level

o   Ensure that there is uniformity and shared knowledge between all Jr Otters teams, coaches and managers

Adult League

·         Chairperson and 1-2 other volunteers

·         Responsible for:

o   All communication with the board regarding adult league

o   Ensuring that the adult league teams are getting all of the support and resources that they need

Please keep in mind that this is in no way a finalized list but rather a start.  The need for additional committees may arise as we go along.  Once we get these initial committee positions filled and start to build momentum, we can add/subtract committees/responsibilities as needed.

NOTE - The first meeting for committee chairpersons and volunteers will be on: Monday, March 12th, 2018 and coincide with our open board meeting on that same day.

In order to volunteer for a committee, please send an email to:  Rick Weismiller –

Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions.  Otherwise, thank you for your time and consideration!

Reminder -- Rinks' safety & housekeeping rules
by posted 12/15/2015

EYHA members & parents,

As a safety precaution of the players, spectators, etc. please be reminded that  horse-play, running around, ball hockey, stick handling/passing, etc. are NOT PERMITTED at the rinks -- in particular, the lobby areas at JMC & MIC which are quite confined and have glass doors, and the concourse areas of EIA which has equipment and other thing belonging to EIA.

We should all adhere to the facility's house-keeping & safety rules, and treat the rinks & locker rooms with better respect then our homes.  Individuals/teams causing damages will be billed the repair/replacement costs by the rink.

Please do your part and kindly remind anyone not adhering to the rules.

Thank you for your attention in this matter.
