As follow up to our open board meeting on Monday, November 13th, the EYHA Board would like to provide the following update around some key topics that were discussed and most likely on all of our members minds:
JMC - We still have no solid answer on the ice situation at JMC. Sean Carroll, the Vice President of EYHA, spoke with Scott Mitchell, the Erie Zoo Director, on Friday, as he has each week since the start of the season, and Scott explained that they are pulling the refrigerant back out of the system and are going to weigh it. There are currently two spots that are not getting cool enough. He did not indicate what the next step will be beyond that and gave no projected time for the rink to be operational. Sean will continue to be in contact with Scott on a weekly basis. In the meantime, we would like to thank all of you for your continued patience and, as board members but also as hockey parents ourselves, let you know that we share in your frustration.
Ice/Scheduling – Our Scheduler, Stacey Nicklas, will continue to do the best she can to schedule everyone consistently and fairly, given what she has to work with. We understand that the lack of ice and the changes in schedule are not easy on anyone and can be inconvenient. Everyone, from our Timbits to our adult league players are struggling right now. Please keep in mind that Stacey devotes several hours of her time each week, on a volunteer basis, trying to make the best of what are far from ideal circumstances. The Board would like to publically thank her for that and thank you, our members, for your continued patience and understanding.
Website – There is ability for the team manager or a coach or parent to enter and upload information/pictures onto the website and the SI App. You can also sync certain items from the SI App and the website together.
If you wanted an announcement/picture/fundraiser information/etc… posted on the EYHA website, simply email all of your information to: Johnny McFadden, Web Administrator, at:
Double Rinks – There has been, for quite some time, speculation about the purchase of Family First by the non-profit organization – GREATT, them putting in two new ice rinks and how that will impact EYHA. The EYHA Board stays in contact with GREATT, and will fill the EYHA members in on all developments with the entire sports park, as they become available going forward. As of now, we are happy to inform you that the closing on the property will take place within the next 30 days. Obviously, this will not help resolve any ice issues for this year, but GREATT anticipate the rinks being ready at some point during the summer of 2018 and available to EYHA for next season! If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact the EYHA Board.
Questions – As a reminder, anyone is welcome at any time to contact the EYHA Board with questions and/or concerns. A board member can answer your question, present a motion on your behalf at the next board meeting or you can even request to come to a board meeting, if need be. In addition to that, we anticipate having open board meetings at least 4 times per year for anyone within the organization to attend. Please watch for notifications… In the meantime, to get contact information for the Board, go to:
From the Erie Youth Hockey “Mane” page, go to - “About EYHA” then “EHYA Board and Team Coaches” or click on this link:
We suggest that you copy your team manager AND multiple board members so that an email is not overlooked and your question/concern is taken care of in a timely manner. You can also approach a board member at the rink or out and about. We are all hockey parents, just like you…
In closing, the board would again like to let everyone know that we appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue to work through this difficult time with JMC being down and thank you for being a part of EYHA!
As a safety precaution of the players, spectators, etc. please be reminded that horse-play, running around, ball hockey, stick handling/passing, etc. are NOT PERMITTED at the rinks -- in particular, the lobby areas at JMC & MIC which are quite confined and have glass doors, and the concourse areas of EIA which has equipment and other thing belonging to EIA.
We should all adhere to the facility's house-keeping & safety rules, and treat the rinks & locker rooms with better respect then our homes. Individuals/teams causing damages will be billed the repair/replacement costs by the rink.
Please do your part and kindly remind anyone not adhering to the rules.
